  • Pothundy is a good place for a picnic

Kerala is indeed “God’s own country”. It is blessed with nature’s best. It includes misty mountains, sandy beaches, rolling rivers, serene backwaters and lush green paddy fields. The paddy fields need plenty of water for irrigation. Fortunately, Kerala is benefitted by the monsoon which ensures an adequate supply of water to the state round the year. Along with Kuttanad and Palakkad is also known as the Granary of Kerala. There is a luxuriant growth of paddy and palm trees. Palakkad is located in the foot of the Western Ghats in a gap between the Nilagiri and Annamalai hills. This is probably the biggest mountain pass in the world. The climatic condition is greatly influenced by the geographic position. The weather is pleasant throughout the year in this district and water supply adequate for irrigation in the surrounding paddy fields.

Palakkad district is blessed with water facilities. There are many rivers in this district like Bharathapuzha, Bhavani, Kannadi, Kalpathy, Siruvani and Gayathri. Dams have been constructed across the important tributaries of Bharathapuzha to provide irrigation facilities for the fields. Some of the important irrigation projects include Walayar, Malampuzha, Cheerakuzhi, Gayathri, Malnagalam and Pothundy.

Pothundy dam is constructed across the tributaries of Ayalur River, Meenchadypuzha and Padipuizha. Ayalur River is a tributary of Bharathapuzha River. It has an ayacut of about 19000 hectares in Chitur and Alathur. The project was started in 1958 and is situated on the way to Nelliyampathy. There is a beautiful park here. It is an interesting place for picnic and weekend getaway.

Kerala is composed of a lot of mind-blowing destinations. In my opinion, Alappuzha is the best place to enjoy your picnic. Alappuzha is famous for its scenic beauty. Alappuzha is known as Venice of east. The best time to visit Alappuzha is December to February because at this time Kerala experienced a moderate climate so you can enjoy the beauty. The top major attractions in Alappuzha are houseboats. You can have mind-blowing experience when you have done a houseboat cruising to the beautiful backwaters in Kerala. You can also watch Nehru Trophy Boat Race, visit Krishnapuram Palace etc. First, you must find a good travel agency and they help you reach Kerala through their Keralatourpackageswithprice.
