I am a big fan of shi de jian
I like this clip. it is a part of a documentary, i have the whole documentary on my computer. there are 2 of dem and they are both very interesting. What i like most about de jian is his realness. Shaolin kung fu is not about fansy complicated moves- or dancing around like the wushu shows, its about simple effektive combat and de jian shows this in the documentaries. De jian is real!

Hi, i just registered, but been scanning over all the really useful topics on this forum for the last few weeks as its really given me a good picture of whats going on around the shaolin area and im glad i found this site.
I just though id let you know that there was some good footage of Shi De Jian on the 2nd half of a documentary program shown today on bbc2 called "Extreme Pilgrim", and can be still seen on the bbc iplayer for the next 6 or so days if any of you are intrested.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/page/it...n_pid=b008lzhp
The first half is about a vicar going to the shaolin temple and basically seeing all the kung fu schools and how alot is being comercialised, but then towards the 2nd half of the program he hears about Shi De Jian and then travels to see him in hope of finding a real traditional shaolin master. Its intresting too see that Shi De Jian does seem to be alot more traditional with how he is training his students and his emphasism on chan buddhism compared to the initial large kung fu schools training people to be bodyguard and demonstrators.
Hope this is useful, the bit on Shi De Jian starts around 32mins into the documentary.
