Good post Fa Hui. I'd have to concur.

Some people need to remember that some of the folk masters are highly regarded around shaolin, it isn't always all about being a monk.

Well, I tell you I do what I can. My teacher has studyied martial arts for 20 years, his teacher has I think studied for 35 years. Of course there is much I want to learn that is why I'm here. If I didn't want to try new things why would I be writing? He has studyied with different teachers. Please understand, I don't just want to learn forms.

I don't learn just forms at the school I go to. I really like the sinawali's in the Escrima Kubato. I also learn combinations, weapon defenses in Shaolin Kempo Karate. Why I like it is it is a mix of arts. Of course if I train with someone one else, I have to trust them when it is time for me to get more material. A few times I have learned forms to quickly, then I have to relearn it. I can see what your point is though. I would like to learn some exercises. I'm going to college right now in full-time for an associate degree in Business mid-managment, and help out with Boy Scouts, so I do other things besides martial arts.

If it isn't broken why fix it? My endurance has improved since I first started, as have my stength, speed, and coordination. I try and make sparring sessions as much as possible. I would rather not fight if at all possible, but if someone comes at me with a weapon, and they stab themselves or fall down, well that just isn't my fault. I feel if someone knows the consequences that is what will encourage them not to fight. I think it's someone who doesn't think about the consequences, that should be worried about. When some people try and fool around now, I can see it coming and nip it in the bud, before someone becomes hurt. But this is all getting off topic. Does shaolin have stick fighting techniques like escrima? What are the shaolin weapons taught at the Las Vegas school? Should I think about studying an Escrima system like Kali, then?

My teacher started later in his life then I have the good fortune of. I have enough to learn where I am at right now however in the future, well, we'll see. He likes the chinese arts so I thought I would do look into that direction.

I was wondering if people were thinking I want to train to start my own school someday to make money and ego gratificaton. That's not really it. Yes someday, I do want to start my own school, but if that was my purpose for doing so then I could probably do so when if I get a blackbelt in the system I already am in. What I see is a lack of good male rolemodels in the society today.

With the weekly warrior program how long would it take to learn a form in five days? Would you recommend going to some seminars first as a way of talking to people? Is it possible to get any videos on the forms before coming?

Also, I'm 250 pounds. I want to study some martial arts I can practice into old age. That's why I'm not interested in wushu so much. I don't know if I would be good at doing flips. Although perhaps in the future.

I'm not good at doing flips. I get about half way.

                    I've stopped trying.

You can learn a lot in five days. And all of the videos that I currently have available, and produced, are on the site. (With lots more to come, Steve is working on them). But, for now, weekly programs might be best waited for, in the fall, when I return with more monks.

It would be awhile before I would want to it will probably take me atleast another 12 months to get a black belt. Are they in the store?

I'm a bit suspicious of anyone trying to make a quick sell. It's not you personally doc. It's that I know someone who bought a program and got taken.

I still want to learn an oar form, and a hoe form in kubato too. Anyway, my bosses in retail take a month off at a time. If I could get in a job like that, well... I saw an aid for a video for a shaolin bo staff form, it said that the bo staff was the weapon of compassionate monks. Is that true? I would probably be better at studying a heavier weapons, becuase of my build.

I think my teacher agrees with you guys on the forms. He says he has to practice one a day just to keep current. I would like to make the weapons system more like the empty hands system. So I probably need to study some shaolin weapons. One thing is I would like exercises to practice with. For example, I thought up putting a small plastic bottle taping to the at tree to practice hitting it.

I thought you knew that. Anyway, it would be awhile though, before I want to take lessons else where. That's why I'm kind of interested in your school doc, because of the weekly warrior program. I go down for a week, that's not a big deal.
