I am suprised to hear that their fighting skills are not up to par, according to maestro. I know they can perform their forms almost flawlessly which makes me assume they might have decent fighting skills. Well we never really know until someone fights with one of them and tells the rest of us about it. Fight not Spar.

What exactly does doing forms have to do with fighting skills? How many full-contact fighters have come out of Wah-lum?

Why do you differentiate between fight and spar -- do you spar with only touch contact? Come on...If you spar with someone full speed and half contact you'll be able to tell what kind of fighter they are inside of a couple minutes.


you watch someone do forms, you can tell how good they are at forms. Forms have nothing to do with fighting. You wanna fight, you train to fight. You wanna dance around in some jammies, you train Wah Lum.

When I spar my intent is to get a feel of how a technique works or how it feels being in up against another person.

My point was that the logic "if someone is good at forms, they're also a good fighter", is flawed. I have seen many people who had good forms and good demonstated technique who couldn't fight. Conversely, I've seen many good fighters who have really awful form work...
