        • an answer to what? i'd say his shaolin skills and material are real. he's one of the well-known disciples of shi suxi, in shaolin.

but then, he's also learned a lot of other mystical chinese stuff outside of shaolin.

            • Actually, I've had some (very little) experience with Shi De Ru.

He is known as "Iron Leg" and from what I hear it comes from an event in his earlier life where he was fighting a Thai boxer in a match, who broke his leg while kicking at De Ru. *shrug* That's all hear-say...

But I can tell you he is a very stern man. He has a very commanding presence (or maybe that's just because I'm a nervous little man?) and expects alot from his sudents.

I've seen him do a couple of really awesome eagle sets, some animal Tai Gong, and a couple of staff movements.

I'm think sanshou is his main dish, and he loves to put together school fights and have everyone wail on eachother.

But like I said, other than seminar at his school where he more or less popped in and out, and a on the go lesson here and there my experience was pretty limited.

              Digression----
I was actually at his school over the weekend for a seminar with Shi De Cheng. Being in the same place with the two of them was an awe-inspiring experience and I have to say I think Shi De Cheng is my favorite person who I have never had an actual conversation with. His teaching style was extremely friendly and encouraging.

I'd love to hang out with him all day and exchange akward hand movements and try to pass them off as communication. He rocked.
              -------Digression over

Shi De Ru seems to be as legit as they come. He comes off to me as that extremely tough instructor from our favorite kung fu flix from the 70's & 80's, who takes alot to impress but once you do - has a heart of gold.

Rated PG-13 for crude family fun, mild violence, and uncontrollable bowel movements.

No, I've seen that documentary and he says he could not swallow meat or cheese because he was so used to a strictly vegetarian diet and that it took a while to acclimate himself to his new diet.
