She was transferred to the Eternally Damned group.

She lurks. I have no doubt she'd be back if I put her back into HELL.

      Up to you guys.

i run into her on some other message boards. apparently she's a little displeased with the folks here- or something like that. lol

i think you should throw her into a room just for her and librarian. they'd really hit it off i think. only the two of them would understand each other! a match made in HELL perhaps?

Shi Xing Ming Chan Wu Gong Fu Yyuan

Chan Wu Gong Fu Academy is located at the foothills of the Nine Lotus Flower Mountain (Jiu Lian Hua Shan), close to Dengfeng, Henan Province, China. The Academy is situated in a small, traditional village on the outskirts of Deng Feng proper and is easily accessible by taxi, bus and motorcycle taxi.

The small village environment gives you the opportunity to learn and understand Shaolin Gongfu and the culture of the Chinese people as in the old days of the Shaolin Temple. The hills and winding paths around the house provide a challenging morning run, as well as a great place for morning Qi Gong in addition to a place to quietly discover yourself. A 5-minute walk from the Academy there are old mud cave homes, some of which are still occupied today. It is like walking back in time and history.

The Academy specialises in teaching foreign students, but teaches Chinese Students as well. The Academy aims to further the cultural exchange between the people of other countries and China.

The training at the Academy includes Traditional North Shaolin Gong Fu and South Shaolin Gong Fu and Tai Ji (basics, empty hand and weapon forms as well as Chin Na), Sanda (a fighting style including punches, kicks as well as locks and throws), Qi Gong (soft/internal such as Ba Duan Jin and hard/external such as the Iron Body) as well as the opportunity to learn about Meditation, Chan Buddhism, Chinese Language as well as Traditional Chinese Medicine.

And at this point I could ask my questions again, but I know I would get no answer as the poster most likely doesn't speak know English. I wonder if he will respond to some Chinese.....

Travis...

I asked if Chanwu can really teach Buddhism, meditation, and Chinese medicine to foreigners. If whom ever it is actually gives me an answer lets hope I can understand it. And if I can't, that's where all you other Chinese speaking cool guys can help us out ! (LFJ, UWE, ONESPR1NG)

If it is any other school, I seriously doubt it. It's just not part of the typical curriculum out there.

And he won't respond, because he's in HELL for spamming the forums. I got tired of deleting all his extrra threads for this damn wushu school.

Ehhhh. Alright. Thought it was worth a try. I figured if he replied and said yes it would probably be bullshit anyway. I sorta just wanted to see if he would reply at all or if re-posting info from the site was all he was capable of.

It's gotta be difficult to teach a foreigner Buddhism being that most of the Chinese speak English rather pitifully and English terminology for Buddhism is not easy to learn in the first place. It's almost another language. So teaching it would be extreemly difficult for 'em. Meditation though. I could imagine, if you were givin a room and a time to meditate it would most likely consist of your shifu saying, "here is the room, you want to sit down like this (gives you an example), breath slow, and be quiet." That would probably be the extent of your meditatin lessons. Being that meditation is something more metaphysical, to be able to instruct someone on their journey though it would again require a greater ability to communicate than most English speaking Chinese have.

Anyway, I'm sure Chanwu IS just like any other Dengfeng school in that Wushu is all that is taught. I'm sure that the Buddhism, meditation and Chinese medicine is all just promotional bull to sell their product.

Welcome to the 22nd century where religion sells ! Maybe that's not such a new thing actualy.........

i've found out what baiwanxi means! travis. lol

but hey, your chinese aint bad. you just use 吗 a bit excessively, to where it becomes ungrammatical at points.

he already replied saying his wife teaches those buddhist and medicine classes but she's in america. she's a westerner too. so her english is plenty good. and from what i know of her, if its the same person i'm thinking of, she's definitely capable of teaching buddhism. i dont know about medicine though.

as for their martial arts, i'm not sure if its traditional, modern or modernized traditional or just what. there are some videos on the website. i saw them a long time ago but forgot whats on there. and i cant open it now. but i remember some of the qigong. the western guys were getting sticks broken over them. but i'd hardly call that qigong.

thats the extent of my knowledge anyway. i cant say much for the martial arts or medicine, but if his wife is the one i met, then i'd say their buddhist classes must be pretty good.

Ahhh I see... Sounds like it wouldn't be a bad place to study if his wife was around as well... Hmmmmmm

As far as the Chinese goes, I tend to forget to use the 吗 in conversation so I probably do over compensate sometimes. After 4 years of studing I'm still really just a beginner.

I even wrote my name wrong without realizing. It supposed to be 白万喜 not 百. My Chinese friend and teacher in the States gave it to me. 白 because, compared to the typical Chinese, my skin color is really white, and 万喜 because I smile and laugh a lot.

Actually, my name, Travis, is a little hard for most Chinese to say because of the "V" in the middle. So most people here just go by my Chinese name. It's always funny for a teacher to call my name out when someone who doesn't know me is in the room. They're always incredibly supprised when I answer in Chinese to my Chinese name. It still seems to be pretty supprising for most Chinese here to hear a white guy speak a little Chinese.

I like it. It always puts a smile on my face.

well, bai...u might also want to note that:

"hello" often comes after titles or whatever form of address you may be using, as in 先生您好。。。老师好....大夫好...etc..

the 如果 u use is typically expressed as 是不是,是否(plus verb), 能否, 可否, or a verb 不verb construction, as in: 不知道您是否是禅武学校的一位师父?i wonder whether or not you're one of chanwu school's teachers? ( 我想知道您是不是禅武学校的一位师父? (same) or 我也想知道您的学校是否教佛教? or 我也想知道您的学校教不教佛教? etc)

do people around u say 沉思 or 打坐? peaple can be taught how to 打坐, but 沉思 is something we all do from time to time. it may be used by certain groups differently, however... i'm not quite sure, just i don;t remember it being used that way.. hmmm

also: u might think of changing 我的最后的问题, to 我最后一个问题是, and 我只会说汉语说得很小 to 我只会说简单的汉语....

and 中国医学。。。doesn't need to be seperated with a 的。。 with a 的 is kind of reads as "the chinese medicine" as opposed to "chinese medicine."

                      hope that helps a bit...

It definitely helps and I appreciate it!!!
Like I said, I'm still just a beginner.
The thing that confuses me here is the "一个问题是" or "学校的一位师父"...... I understand it, and when I read or hear it I know it's the correct way to say it, but I have a hard time knowing when to use it. It strikes me as the type of thing you have to pick up over time.

I know if I want to say "that person (the person we were talking about)" I would say 那一位人, where as if I say, "that person (the one standing in front of us)" I say "ne ge ren". But I don't exactly undrstand when to use it.....
Can U give me a pointer, maybe ?

As far as "meditate" I got that from the dictionary. I wouldn't know the right way to say it though "da zuo" makes since even if it does sound a bit funny. It's very Chinese. hehe...

(sorry, my computer f'ed up on me mid-post and stopped me from being abld to write Chinese)

Thanks though. Like I said, I appreciate it. My life has become one long, slow Chinese lesson. : )

                        Later, T

thats how chinese lessons usually tend to go, baiwanxi.

位 is used formally or to show respect. when you go to a restaurant and they ask how many they wont say 个, they'll say 位.

个 is used in general and informal.

as for meditation, consider 静坐 as well. lol

只管打坐 is the chinese for shikantaza is japanese. the typical "just sitting" method of meditation used in chinese caodong and japanese soto schools.

as for the rest of chinese learning, just read and listen A LOT continuously to content that you enjoy. you'll run into the same phrases and words and learn how to use them from experience in your reading and listening. dont worry about grammar or when to do something. just read and listen more and you'll learn it. memorizing grammar rules (that you're bound to screw up anyway) will only slow you down.
