OK, wacky shit. I'll have to agree with that.

But from reading her remarks, I don't think she's a creationist. I think she was as ignorant as I was about this crap when she said "teach both".

Hell, with the open mind I have, I probably would have said the same thing.

Another example of our beloved liberal press going after republicans and not going after Obama. Who has far more dubious associations to be investigated.

Now our VP candidate thinks Jesus is going to come back and sweep her up into the sky to hang out for a while doing something ecstatic I guess, so her and the other evangelical mouthbreathers look down and jeer at all the poor shits who never thought to buy into being born again or who - rightly I might add- think that if God existed he should have just stepped on Satan soon as he looked sideways from the get go and save us some drama. Her Church sells "Rapture Insurance." I mean I am seeing automatic DQs here left and right. One of her pastors protected her from witches, and how should he know she needed protection from witches? Because that's his schtick! In Africa he drives them out of towns, then claims all this wondrous shit happens when they're gone, of course any fool scrutinizing his wondrous shit quickly sees it is just that, shit. What the fuçk is next, floating people in tubs of water to see if they sink?

Still I'm glad there are people like Palin around, because one of my favorite things to do is pretend to be someone I don't like and invite these mouthbreathers over to try and save me- it's hilarious. Yea, he's brilliant.

you can find it on official channels, it's not that hard. what happened to you guys, somebody walk through here with a dumb stick and start busting your heads?

who cares about tit for tat politics when you have a candidate who thinks Land of the Lost is a documentary. Biden can gaffe all day long, as far as I know he is one of the few people in the Senate who is actually like a regular person, commutes to work and shit like that. But that gaffe by Biden is not his core belief- he doesn't believe that Roosevelt went on TV as part of his real deal, he was telling a freakin story. People can't judge the quality of this shit. it's not the same as when Palin says God talks to her, and that He wants a pipeline layed. I used those words for you Dogchow- get it, "Palin", "layed"..."pipe"....seriously man, I'm just trying to show you poor landlocked bastard some compassion, lol...

Imagine the fuçking nerve of that though- millions of people dying of starvation, Darfur....a real shit show of a planet, and Palin knows that God wants to see a pipeline? Why? Because she and her pastor think Alaska is a "refuge" state- when the rapture hits and all the good Christians get to float on Jesus' air biscuits, those of us that survive will flee to Alaska.

Anyway people make mistakes and I don't see why someone making a mistake is so often akin to committing political suicide. Homeboy was just telling a story. All politicians mispeak and talk shit from time to time, but with Palin, we are talking about her CORE beliefs- this is shit she actually wants to see happen, what she truly believes.

I'm supposed to feel like a guy who doesn't remember how many homes he has is in touch with the citizens? A guy who can look at Palin being protected against witches, and says to himself, this is the shit I need on my side to win the presidency?

Well to be honest and to McCain's credit, I don't think he wanted Palin, I think he must have been forced to accept her to placate the 60% of our mouthbreathing population who think animals speak in mangers at midnite Christmas Eve.

anyway he almost had my vote but for this Palin shit. Fact is, McCain should have won out over Bush back in the day. I still can't believe that fuçking shit.

Another reason I can't see pulling a lever for McCain is that I have lost all faith in trickle down economics. That doesn't work. People are greedy, they conserve their wealth as much as possible. Look at how they raise the spectre of paying more taxes, they are saying Obama is marxist and a socialist, a secret Muslim who hates his own country. It's fuçking laughable, could they pack in any more political boogie men to assasinate this guy's character. It would be like thinking McCain goes home at night, puts on crotchless lederhosen, fuçks his wife in the ass while she wears a hitler stache and smacks him with the riding crop they issue to hitler youth corps members.

I know countless people who would love to have the opportunity to pay our taxes to escape the shit they are in presently where they live. Americans are lucky to be able to complain about paying taxes.

I mean looking at this bailout, we are talking 700 billion dollars. You know, to put this in perspective, it's been calculated that 3 billion dollars a year would eradicate starvation. We could end it. Just like that. Meanwhile, the guys who are supposed to trickle wealth down, made 30 billion just in Christmas bonuses last year.

Well, it's complicated, this credit crisis stuff, but ONE factor is the following:

It started with Jimmy Carter. Not exactly one of our brightest presidents. He signed into law legislation that allowed and "encouraged" banks to make loans to high credit risks, in an effort to make housing affordable to poor people. It worked to some degree, but banks still maintained a level of control that allowed them to avoid risks that were unmanageable.

Clinton took it a step further, enabling legislation that pushed banks and other lending institutions to take on further credit risks, again in an effort to make housing affordable for the poor. Well, it worked, to some degree. The internet bubble of the nineties made so many people money that the riskiness of increased credit to low income people wasn't really noticed all that much. Also, Clinton enabled legislation that gave various institutions the ability to spread out their businesses; mortgage companies getting into banking, etc, etc. Some institutions wanted it to spread out their liabilities and strengthen their business activities. In the end, some benefited by this action; most spread themselves into markets that they didn't really understand, and were eventually crushed by it.

There are organizations of "community organizers", such as ACORN, which "strongly encouraged" lending institutions to make loans to poor people, who would otherwise be unable to afford housing as per the usual and routine lending practices of the past. One little story comes to mind, to understand how this was done.

Years ago, I was a regular Toyota purchaser. I preferred Four Runners and Land Cruisers, tending to trade them in every two to three years. One year, many years ago, I noticed that the price of the Land Cruiser had jumped significantly, and apparently not in line with the rest of the economy. My friendly Toyota salesman, with whom I had been doing business with for years, explained that Toyota had to raise prices because of an "event" that had just occurred. That event: Jesse Jackson.

For some reason, Jackson decided to pick on Toyota, telling them that if they did not donate to his "church", he would organize a boycott amongst the black population and hurt their business. This type of "encouragement" was not outside of Jackson's purview; he had done this sort of thing with many other businesses and organizations over the years.

Toyota made an eight million dollar donation to Jackson's church.
The Democrats, who, mind you, also lead the Senate Finance committee, and also ran Fannie Mae, a large financial institution that purchased bad loans from other banks, bad loans being loans made to people without the usual and customary twenty percent deposit, or, loans to people made based on "stated income" as opposed to "proven income". Many looked the other way over the years, to fulfill the Democratic dream of spreading the wealth, and a "home for every family".

Problem is, not everyone can afford a house. Another problem is, some of these people that were given loans, were just not responsible people to start with. (God knows how many I've seen over the years in the various emergency rooms I've worked in around the country).

It all came to a head, once this recent oil crisis (driven by speculators, oil companies, brokers, and possibly OPEC) unnecessarily raised prices and pushed people, who had been living "two paychecks from bankruptcy) into a position of not being able to make mortgage payments that they either could barely make, or, were eventually not going to be able to make.

The fault also comes from many of these scumbag mortgage brokers. I knew a few of them; they pushed these "no down payment" hundred percent mortgage, adjustable rate things to people that couldn't afford the damn house in the first place. They used the newly accepted tactic of "stated income" where you just state your income and not proof it, in lieu of getting a slightly higher interest rate, or, more points on the mortgage. Instead of paying the usual one point (a point being a percentage of the entire loan), these people would state an acceptable income, and pay three points, the total of which would just be added to the loan, thus increasing the loan to market value.

It was all good while the housing market continued its upward climb. People could take out an 860,000 dollar mortgage on a house that maybe was worth 800,000, not worrying because houses were increasing in value ten percent or more a year. (This was more common out west, in Nevada, Arizona, California, etc, and not really seen as much in the northeast and east). Problem was, we hit a bust in housing prices, and now that house, which was mortgaged for 860000, is now worth 550000.

                        People walk away. Get foreclosed.

Or, the ridiculous mortgages, one of which I was offered, really hurt the stupid people that fell for them. Many years ago, Merrill Lynch had a program whereby if you signed up for their brokerage business for a certain amount, they would mortgage your house for one percent interest per year, with interest only payments, and no principle. What happened to the unpaid principle, and the "less than cost of living interest" payments? It got tacked onto the principle. So, for example, if I took out a million dollar mortgage on my house, paid interest only one percent per year, the "unpaid interest" (given the usual cost of living is about four percent or so), and the principle downpayments, were just tacked onto the total loan amount. Five years later, that million dollar mortgage might now be a million and seventy five thousand dollars. Or more.

But no one cared. These mortgage scumbags just told people that the value of the houses would keep going up, so it didn't matter.

You can see how things eventually got messed up. These mortgage broker scumbags walked away earning tons of cash from the loans that they did. People who shouldn't have been able to purchase houses bought them using faked data in a legally created environment that relaxed the rules far too much, in an effort by Democrats to bring home ownership to the poor. Middle class people were encouraged to purchase houses that were truly beyond their means. Institutions that specialized in one specific financial arena got involved in other arenas in which they were less knowledgeable. Interest groups, such as ACORN, "encouraged" lawmakers to relax banking rules so that individuals who would normally not be eligible for big credit, got it.

ACORN is the Association for Community Organizations for Reform Now. Some quotes from their website are fairly telling:

ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, is the nation's largest community organization of low- and moderate-income families, working together for social justice and stronger communities.

"Seattle collaborates with 22 banks and credit unions to offer services to people with no bank accounts".

"ACORN demands that lawmakers pass comprehensive immigration reform measures that include the following:

                        * A path to citizenship for the estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States.
                        * Protection for all workers – both native and foreign-born – by upholding fair wages and working conditions for U.S. and immigrant workers and by ending exploitation and abuse of undocumented immigrant labor.
                        * Reunification of families through removal of restrictions and bureaucratic delays. Those who have waited in line should have their admission expedited, and those admitted on work visas should be able to keep their nuclear families in tact.
                        * Restoration of the rule of law and enhancement of security by providing a path to permanent status with effective enforcement."
They are an organization of "community organizers" that try to bring beneifits to the lower income class. And, not meaning to bring this political discussion into this, but Obama was associated with this ACORN group in the past. Helping the poor by giving them finances is a proven part of his repertoire.

I have nothing against helping the poor. But our capitalistic society, if this is what we want to live in, has to function by various proven financial rules. Opportunities should be available to people who will take advantage of it; credit should be given to people who are responsible and can afford it. The capitalist system breaks down when certain rules are not adhered to.

I'm not a fan of Palin: though she appears to be principled and strong, I think she's in way over her head. I'm not a fan of McCain either; though I think he's principled, experienced and committed, and able to make commitments, his age scares me. And I respect Biden, I really like the guy.

But I'm downright afraid of Obama. He's non-commital, he's slippery, he bullshits people, just tells them what he wants to hear. He won't make a decision, he shows no leadership qualities. I don't think he's experienced, though I do think he's a very intelligent guy. I don't like his background and his extreme leftist / socialist leanings, as evidenced by just about everything this man has done in his fairly worthless professional career, a career which seems to have been put together with one sole self serving purpose in mind. And I can't stand his racist wife, the bitch who benefitted from affirmative action programs (which I remember well from my post graduate education years), and who scarily maintains an attitude that I had come to hate from the same affirmative action benefiting blacks who took up extremely difficult to obtain medical school seats, and then bitched and moaned, complaining that the school was racist when they struggled and failed classes. (most did not get through the four years of medical school).

As one Australian put it months ago, when Hillary was fighting Obama, and McCain was struggling to get his party's nomination, "With 380 million people in your country, are those the best three you could find?"

Are these the best we can find? What's happening to our country, is frightening.

Interesting stuff Doc about the financial crisis.

I wonder how we get to have so many different political opinions. Is compassion so difficult to find or is it that it have many ways? At the moment i try to stop my own political opinions. I think there is a tendancy to create opinions just by contradiction and it does not seem as a good method. I believe a yin yang approach of harmonizing opinions could be more helpful.

Anyway i m a bit too confused to write about that at the moment, but one question that can be asked is why political opinions are so different and how to reach a clear view...

sounds like you are reading a lot of debunked bullshit that is still circulating about, in book form and email and web media. especially this nonsense about Michelle Obama being 'racist.'

that rumor started from her senior thesis. it doesn't surprise me that people think that, I mean just yesterday my uncle was telling me, with real alarm, that Obama was taught Islamic fundamentalism and left his brother to rot in the gutters of Africa.

the two major claims that serve as the nut of the racism charges made in email chains and a few books- which sounds like you read them- are simply false. You can look it up yourself- the rumours are well documented at this point and have all been researched. You can also read the original thesis that she wrote yourself, which Obama's campaign released of it's own accord when it was requested by politico.com. Frankly, there is nothing concluded in the thesis that is at all shocking, it's pretty well documented territory and far from revelatory.

I'd like to point out that people- usually fat neck white men listening to Rush Limbaugh in their sansabelts- seem to think over 400 years of systemic racism can be wiped out in a few decades now that we have black QBs in Major League Football. People need to remember that the last lynching in this country happened in 1981. It wasn't until 2005 that our government saw fit to issue a formal apology for it's failure to secure the rights of it's citizens to live without fear of this racist attack...

Study after study concludes unequivocably that black americans face severe disenfranchising disadvantages in the job market in hiring, promotion, in securing housing, I mean just look at criminal sentencing disparities- and compounding the overt systemic racism they face, there is the subtle effects of white privilige, which many white people can not recognize since they simply have no means of understanding it or contextual experience to recognize when they benefit from priviliges other people are locked out of enjoying. Looking at Fox News' treatment of the campaign, this is quickly apparent- 'terrorist fist jab' and Michelle Obama referred to as 'baby mama' immediately spring to mind. I mean that is a major news conduit, that is of an entirely different quality than sitting in front of a negligible preacher making a few off statements.

as to Obama's qualifications for office, which are actually many if you take the time to actually learn about him like I have started doing since Palin's selection as McCain's running mate necessitates an Obama pull for me, are many. He has actually travelled extensively in the world, even living abroad for a few years, speaks more than one language- I mean compare that with a guy who got elected who never left the country and had no idea who any world leaders were, this during his actual campaign!

First of all the guy could have had a position in ANY Law Firm of his choosing. Landing the position he did at Harvard, that is like a blank check- a position I might ad to which he was elected and received glowing accolades from both republican and democrats. Instead, he chose a different route. That speaks to his character in a big way,to me. The guy has honest to goodness GRASS ROOTS experience. Perhaps most telling to me, is that frankly, most of the very same charges laid against Obama could be made- with even more applicability- against Shrub. If you pulled a lever for Shrub, and many did so twice, you don't have a freaking leg to stand on as far as stating anything about Obama's qualifications or 'experience.'

Disagree with his politics all you want, it's a free country or at least so they tell us, but to be 'alarmed' by a rational person seeking office? I mean, people make it like he is this craftily created persona to sort of trojan horse his way into office and fuçk up the country on purpose- to what end? I mean, are people actually afraid he is going to shut down NORAD's defcon system and give Usama Bin Laden the launch keys? This bullshit about people being alarmed about Obama is said with a straight face while Karl Rove has an office in the White House, and we have a VP who is for all intents and purposes, a traitor to the nation insofar as his skirting and outright flaunting of our laws and subterfuges against our national security for financial benefit.

Anyone actually thinking about the situation should immediately recognize the logical flaw in these bogey man positions and how preposterous they really are. There is NOTHING wrong with a person working to attain public office, even setting themselves up on the pathway- leastways nothing wrong with it that EVERY one seeking such office participates in.

Much is being made of a lack of experience- whatever that means- I mean what does it actually mean? What kind of specific experience should a candidate for president have? Obama has the same experience set as plenty of successful presidents, and in some aspects MORE. If you come up with a check list, and then compare it to his record, you will be forced to check off pretty much everything in the yes column to the same degree as people you are 'comfortable' with assuming office.

This conversation is getting boring. We've heard all this before. Come on, surprise me!

I don't bother reading the email shit.

I've watched her on the news, many times. I've watched the way she responded to people. I form my own opinions.

And the few books I've read on Obama now (and not his bullshit tome) have all concurred on Muslim education, which, is really irrelevant. What is important is what he did, and didn't do, in his political career. And that can't be debated; it's all documented.

Typical Democrat response Arhat. I expected it. But that's ok, you're entitled to your opinions and beliefs. And, from what I've seen in this truly bizarre election, when discussing Obama, it comes down to beliefs. And not rationality.

Which is what really scares me.
