      Yongxin?

No, Yongxin doesn't call me at home. Nor does he send me money.

I do know people that have sent him money though...

Well, serious rumors in the early 2000's purport three villas and the previously elsewhere mentioned cars.

Some of his more determined detractors have claimed a mistress and a daughter, but unlike the cars, I haven't seen that. Rumor can be nothing but rumor.

          Whatever floats his boat.

          Where ever that is...

i saw an interview with him recently on discovery channel here. the show itself focused quite a bit around some dance troupe in london that uses shaolin monks in their performances. these guys were doing a combination of modern dance (along with big wooden boxes) and shaolin gongfu.

if i recall correctly, according to the provided translation anyway, yongxin had talked about how these changes are necessary for shaolin in order to adapt and evolve to modern times. and he believes damo would support and encourage his decisions, of course, he were still alive today.

              big wooden boxes?

i personally dont think the modern evolution of shaolin performance is negative, unless it is done by those with no affiliation to the temple. i agree with him, it is necessary. martial arts, dancing or whatever will spark interest and cause people to look into shaolin, find dharma and perhaps benefit. its all positive.

after all, shaolin monastery is not a mere martial arts school. why do they have to do nothing but traditional martial arts? i think the negative views are held largly by people who are into traditional martial arts and hold some false view of buddhadharma and monasticism.

abbot yongxin is not the only shaolin temple monk who supports this idea either.

see master deyang's videos doc posted. its an entertaining way to draw people in and give them the opportunity to look more deeply if they so choose.

i dont think the temple wants to be seen as a martial arts school, but a buddhist monastery with a unique and wonderful practice.

from this perspective things look totally different.

no this dance shit is all rubbbish not evolution you know what it is its making money offf shaolin name dont be fooled by yong xin kind words. Just look at what hes done to the real monks and youll see who he is, basiclly what he doesnt care about the shaolin tradition he only cares about getting money off the shaolin name. I tell you what this is definetly not buddisht what yong xin is doing making millions of dollars off entry fee and commercialism is not buddhisht it doesnt matter if we live in 21st century or 18th buddhism remains the same. yong xin and his government freinds want to change buddhism and make an excuse saying its evolution bullshit its called making money plain and simple for chris sake its a ****ing temple why the **** do you have to pay to go into a temple i know one thing and that yong xin is not a monk hes not buddhist hes a one of those corporate managers like donald trump of the sort he doesnt give a **** about shaolin temple the tradition or chan.

um, yeah...big ones. i think there were 51 in total.

apparently, according to the choreographer, many things can be created with that number of boxes, like a pyramid, temple, etc... which the monks would form/build during the course of their performance.

he also commented on how surprised he had been when yongxin suggested that he train the monks to dance... hiphop. :-)

Years ago, somewhere in my Journals on the site, I mentioned, and showed a video, of the changes that Deyang was making to his school's gong fu choreography.

It was very modern dance like. For the television.

Gonna take me a while to find that again... I think the videos are here on the forum, and not in russboTV.

woops, that national geographic documentary is on again right now. there are 21 boxes in total, not 51. the choreographer says, 'you can create an infinite amount of structures with 21 boxes. '

I elected not to watch it.

Not sure why. Thought spending my time with Battlestar Galactica to be more worthwhile.

21 is the number of colours of Tara, 2 of them being wrathful.

It is also the numbers of meal in a week for those who eat 3 times.

Inaki, the basque founder of the Jesuits, born in Loyola near Lasarte in Basque country (do not think it is Je Rinpoche Tsongkapa the founder of the Gelug) ate meat only once a week.

                          Peace and love

so if a person eats meat, they should at least try to limit their intake?
