    From MSNBC:

It was a good sign that Horn’s condition had not changed since he last underwent surgery, the duo’s longtime manager, Bernie Yuman, said Sunday afternoon during a news conference.
“The doctors are cautiously optimistic,” Yuman said. “The doctors are telling us that the more time that passes, the better we are. Every day that passes we are going to be in better shape.”
Horn, 59, was heavily sedated but able to respond to voices and touch, MGM Mirage Resort chief executive Bobby Baldwin said.
“We are guarded, optimistic,” Baldwin said late Saturday night outside the hospital. “We are pleased the news isn’t worse than it is.”

Unfortunate horrible accident. But his condition is a lot worse than what the news is saying, from what I've been hearing. He also suffered a depressed skull fracture and brain injury, with some very serious cerebral edema. The torn carotid artery apparently resulted in a stroke from what I've been told. His chances of survival are poor, and if he does survive, he has a good chance of being in a vegetative state. Just horrible.

The news article in fact did, in a round about way, suggest that his condition was bad, when it made mention of the fact that the show's producers were telling the 260 or so show employees to "look for other jobs..."

Just goes to show. Got to read into these things, and not just read them.

    The spin is incredible...

    From MSNBC:

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 10— Doctors give injured Las Vegas animal trainer and illusionist Roy Horn a 95 percent or better chance of surviving last week’s tiger mauling, former boss and casino entrepreneur Steve Wynn said Friday.

“HE IS IMPROVING every day. It looks like he is turning the corner,” Wynn said in a telephone interview. Wynn said he had seen the star of the famed “Siegfried and Roy” show Thursday evening.
“The doctor is saying he’s got a 95-, 98-percent chance” and Horn was breathing for hours at a time without a respirator, he said.

Animal experts disputed a theory that a tiger accidentally mauled Horn saying the 600-pound animal was going for the jugular. Horn remained in critical condition at Las Vegas’ University Medical Center and could not speak, but was communicating through hand signals.
“The cat wasn’t trying to protect him,” said Jonathan Kraft, who runs the Arizona-based nonprofit group Keepers of the Wild. “That was a typical killing bite.”
“I admire the guys, I just think they are sending a wrong message,” Kraft said. “The message needs to be: These are wild animals.”

Unbelievable. I guess it all depends on what you think the word "survive" means.

They fired all the show's employees today from what I've been told. Gave them two weeks pay. They all lose their health benefits at the end of the month.

Sad that so much bullshit is surrounding such a tragedy.
