how do i take a pic that i already have on my comp and set it as my avatar

To upload your own pic you'll have to enter your user cp and click on "edit options". At the bottom you will find "Avatar". If you click on it a new window will open and you can choose between an avatar from the available list or (when you scroll down) you can upload a pic from your own computer.
