The next big thing or just hype?

Are they known about or used in traditional chinese medicine?

TCM goes back two or three thousand years. Bacteriophages were discovered during these past hundred years, sometime in the early 1900's.

Can't image TCM incorporating something like this into their theories, but, I might be wrong.

Well, I know a few herbalist (all of them white) who occasionally prescribe probiotics for specific patients. But those who do prescribe such supplementation have no illusions about using them for chinese diagnoses.

While its possible some fresh raw herb which treated external evils and toxic heat contained bacteriophages, I doubt any of the classical herbalists linked it to microbiology.
