Well snocap, I guess you could always train with Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming in Boston. Teaches some solid White Crane and Traditional Northern Long Fist there. Good stuff. (On the LiPeng thing, well, perhaps you're just gonna have to train with him for a few weeks and see how you feel with the class.) Hope that helps man, peace.
a true gongfu system must have the four major aspects of combat to be complete, "striking", "Kicking", Chin'na (joint-locking), and Shuai-Jiao (Wrestling)... in addition it must combine the internal with the external...

I don't have a grudge on him at all. He taught me several tradional forms and straight sword. I have a grudge on the way things get represented in shaolin, in general.

My description of the class was on point.

If you are just looking for what you want to here just keep asking? I'm sure someone will appease you.

If you want to really learn how to fight your going down the wrong path.
Good luck ignoring the warning I am trying to give you. Hopefully you won't waste too many years before you have to grudgingly admit I was correct from the beginning.

You only live once. I wish I would have trained in a real fighting art when I started 6 years ago. I would be that much better today.

Not necessarily. He's young and the flexibility, leg strength, athletic ability that Shaolin develops is great. Shaolin is excellent for learning Gongfu basics.

If he studies another style later, he will have good fundamentals to begin with. It's not a waste.

                  Mortal,

Its alright man if he doesnt teach I was just wondering.I can always teach my self how to fit with sandbags and what not.He could teach me the basics and some traditional forms as you said and I could just incorporate that into my fighting style....No biggie really.Im not really a beginner to shaolin kungfu.Use to do dragon for 2 years but decided it wasnt for me and wanted to try new things. And so im here in his class enjoying the people in it and getting a good work.Thats all I care about...having fun and meeting new people.

At least come and try a class where I'm training one night. By chance the other night I met another ex monk student who was really good at shaolin, who is now devoted to this style. Check out the site www.sifugrados.com. We are up on West 27th street. I think the address is 153. Take the 1 or 9 train to 28th.

Maybe in a couple of years....But for now im just barely old enough to drive by my self.

But thanks though for the heads up...Ill definatly give it a try in a few years.

So Sifu Grados is your teacher, eh Mortal? Nice. I checked out the website man. That's crazy, they even got a little music video for him, haha. It's pretty damn cool though. From what I saw in the video, he seems like a good, solid teacher man. Good stuff. Hey Mortal, you ever trained in Traditional Shuai-Jiao (or its sub-style Kuai Jiao), it'd be a good addition to your Wing Chun training.

If Mortal didn't learn how to fight from the monks that's his fault.

See how SYM's students can kick ass?

                          Lol!

Was that Shaolin Monkey boxing? Opening move is Arhat Pulls Hair.

                                mortal says "no techniques"

didnt you say you train basic and flying kicks in drills? what kind of kicks? cause if you kick alot you should easily be able to handle yourself in street altercations

hand techniques are one thing, most "street" fights are out in the open, someone with a long range system like northern shaolin would do well to kick someone in the face..

i dunno what the wing chun is your learning..wing chun is good, but dont just say because all you do is kick alot and drill that there are no techniques, because..those are techniques and good ones to..inner-outter crescent, side-back kicks, hook kicks, axe kick, front snaps etc

im just sayin, you can have all your wing chun bridgeing and close range fighting techniques, but wing chun is all hands, ive never seen a flying kick in there forms anyway..

just cause people train differently doesnt mean they are "wrong" just different
