Of course it is. It isn't taught. Just trained. They do pushups and situps everyday. So do most kungfu schools for that matter.

yeah, they do situps, but thats not all that they do to work the abdominals. there are various shaolin postures that work like yoga's "asana's" postures that work the abdominals as well. without that, i dont think shaolin would be shaolin.

doing pushups and situps everyday isnt good for you. once ever 2-3 days is best and if u do it right youll reap the best results. my favorite crunches not going there but i have i think 8 exercises, and pushups the best are handstand, hindu, diamond sets and 1 handed imo

Yeah, if you do the same exercise everyday too many times a day, all you do is get better at doing the exercise. Not to mention the cycle you'll trap yourself in. If you go and do 1000 crunches a day, you're going to build up your endurance until you reach your peak. Once you reach your peak and continue to not challenge your body, you only get weaker.

Variations and periodic workouts are the real way to gain anything.

amen, like you were saying if your training every day your endurance will go up, but you will not gain much muscle mass, due to the fact that your are not giving your body enough time to recuperate

lately ive been training balance, i just try to hold a fixed handstand with no support, im up to almost 30 seconds, i probably have to train more with support to strengthen the muscles at work first

                    Wow that's really good...

Lately I've been worrying about how weak my lats are, and how much I need my lower back to do things. So I have been trying to get pullups into my routine as well as reverse hyper extensions.

Lei Yun for I have a really easy exercise for lats that will leave you sore the next day. No equipment necassary.

Just perform each movement 100 times. Sounds like alot but its not...It's easy.

1: Reach up high with boths hands arms straight and pull down like you were using a lat machine at a gym. As you pull down really focus on your last muscles. Make sure your elbows are out coming down and push back up when your elbows touch your hips or love handles. You can do this fast but with focus on the lats and good form (elbows out). Or you can do it slow and throw a little dynamic tension in and "by about 20 you want to call for mommy!", as my teacher would say.

there's some other ones but I'll have to post them later.

Testumaru, thanks for the advice. However, I've read a bit about dynamic tension, and what I've read wasn't good. It was basically chalked up to be an old fad that people used to be into.

i dunno, alot of fat people use it to help lose weight, when they are too weak to exercise, same goes for breathing techniques

LOL well a lot of fat people just need to get off their asses and move to loose weight. And most all people suck at breathing, so really, it's all conditional. And I happen to have neither of those conditions...except when my nose is all stuffed up...
