After reading how your expected do run miles, and do splits, I'm wondering if I would be better off holding off of training in Shaolin Gung Fu, and training in Tai Chi instead. I weight about 245 pounds, about six feet tall, and I got alot of flab. Thing about running, is it might not be to good on the knees.

swimming and bikeriding can both be very good aerobic activities that don't place too much stress on your joints. i think taiji will probably get you in better condition for hard gongfu training, but a good aerobic activity would probably be more beneficial.

245 at 6'0? thats not so bad..although, i used to be around 220 at a point and im 6'1.. i dropped down to 180 easily though, im not sure how your built, so i dunno..i bet you could drop that weight easily aswell
a friend of mine was 330 or so and he was the same height as me, he droppe down to 220 in 6 months or so, just recently to
i dont know what "shaolin" training your talking about, maybe if you gave us an idea of what exactly your talking about
itd be easier to tell you whether or not itd be beneficial to jump right into
anyhow, daily doses of pushups, crunches, some cardio, and stretching can get you a long way aswell

so you mean shaolin then, i thought you meant like shaolin temple houston or NYC or something like that
i dunno, i hear they train 8 hours a day at shaolin, but i doubt its mandatory for westerners to train as much as the other guys, but i mean..if your at shaolin why not train fulltime, itd be like wasteing the experience if you didnt, imo anyhow
im not positive about what actually goes on there anyhow, probably written about around the site somewhere..
