I guess if you want to live in a fantasy world, it's not me who should stop you. If you want to think people know how to speak Chinese, I guess it's your right. But you're all still wrong about being wrong. If you think that anyone is right, they are wrong, and you're wrong for thinking that.

Ok, now I'm thoroughly conffused. And it occurs to me that, at least I hope that this Abbot is referring to the shaolin temple system, which is generally spoken of here, and can be found in that new encyclopedia, and not say, wing chun or hung gar, or black tiger, which are based on them but are not necessarily "shaolintemple kung fu" at least I don't see either in my copy. As for new and old, well, I think I've seen a situation where something obsolete and dead like crab style would have worked just fine, or maybe even something truly ancient, like chao ti would have made just as much effect as say, splashing hands or yunnan consecutive step boxing. Also, I'm under the impression that splashing hands and white eyebrow were the latest and greatest out of shaolin sometime around 1840? Also, not to completely hijack the thread, but it's a damn sight easier for shaolin to claim being the cradle of zen than the cornerstone of all CMA's. I do know if you claim "All martial arts are from shaolin" in a place like Xi'an, the Hui people might become truly motivated.

Anywho, gung fu and hung gar.. for most americans, the following analogy would be correct...
