What kind of health problems can improper qi gong practice cause?

chenzen, you should know that wahnam regards just about any form or exercise that's not taught by WKK as being fundamentally incorrect, and they scare people by saying that doing these forms the way that other people teach them will result in a slew of health problems or insanity.

this is a marketing ploy, plain and simple. in fact, most of the time, when you hear people talk like this ("only i have the real truth and everyone else is wrong"), it's a marketing ploy. i don't know about your acupuncture lady, but i wouldn't use WKK's site as a reliable source of information to back up her opinions.

ok but that wasnt only this site (WKK)... You have to agree that directing the flow at some places where you have blockages is bad. If you practice a form not properly the qi movements in your body must change. So it doesnt have the same effect. Are your saying that any qi movements are good? I dont think so.. My acupuncturist told me she knew some people doing qi gong and they are now in psychiatric hospitals... they damaged their brain by qigong practices and that wasnt hard qi gong like smashing stones on your head but simply some exercises probably like xi xui jin, yi jin jing, ...

I agree with Zach. Christ, Chenzen stop being a nut and get an MRI. TCM might be sound, granted - alot of it's practiontioners however are QUACKS! Do your acupunture if you want, but get an MRI afterwards.

            Dao, please post your dissertation.

            Pretty please.

"stop being a nut and get a MRI"

I'm not being a nut.. forget about MRI/TCM, I will have an MRI at the end of august but first I prefer continue with TCM. It's not important now anyway , my questions are about Qi Gong now...

come on dao, post it. today i've been reduced to reading ain't it cool news, when i could be arguing the merits of the scientific method. i'm sure i don't have to point out the injustice of this.

                  My dissertation?

                  Here's my dissertation. Again.

                  This woman is a nut.

                  Did you like that Lippy?

                    Hey,

Maybe I missed it, but I have to ask. Is this woman Chinese? And, well, if yes, can you say where from?

                    It could be very relevant.

Seems like a sound judgement, bald one, and while I'm always happy to read any of your dissertations, I don't think your names Dao...

Alot of this doesn't add up Chenzen...

The acupuncturist? No she's canadian I think but her teacher was chinese. Where from? I don't know.
Why you all saying she's a nut? She's only applying what she learned in TCM.

Oh and sometime she took my wrists with her hands and touch with fingers some specific points and she felt the Qi in me. Did you ever hear about that technique?

She's doing what most people that practice fringe pseudo medicine do.

Pretend to be the one and only. Knock out other options. Offer the world. Be special with incredible abilities.

All in the name of promoting self advancement, either financially or emotionally.

Tread carefully. Keep an open mind. Always question.

So I had a bit of trouble with that paper, I got no ISP on my home computer, and this computer won't read the word document. I'll try moving it as a notepad file.....

                                Anyways, here goes.

The dangers of qigong. Life is dangerous. As someone who's taught myself more about qigong than I've learned from teachers (and unless you count Dr. Yang's books, I've only had two qigong teachers, one of whom was quackish, and the other of whom is mildly vain and egotistical but has the body of a 28 year old and she's 52)(the latter was my medical qigong instructor, and she's damn good I must say) I've done plenty of dangerous things. And I've done plenty of brilliant things without knowing why. I've made myself sick, but I've also cured my asthma, and brought myself into a state of semi permanent bliss.

Do I reccomend this path I walk to others? HELL NO. It takes a strong will and an ability to overcome one's emotional mind to get away with the kind of stuff I've done and retain a semblance of sanity, much more so a calm heart.

This is what I think about your acupuncturist Chenzen, so listen up. She's a good practitioner, but qigong is not her area of expertise. Her teacher told her it was very dangerous to practice without proper instruction, and so she passes his words on to you.

If you beleive her, even a little bit, stop practicing qigong until you can find a teacher. It's irrevelant whether or not it actually is dangerous for you. What matters is how you feel during and after your practice, and if you beleive it could be dangerous. Because if even a part of you thinks it could be harmful, and you practice anyway, your mind will make it become harmful.

That's all I have to say on the matter, I'll try to start a new thread on science today or tommorrow.
Show me a man who has forgotten words, so that I can have a word with him.
