i didn't really get the impression that this was about bush specifically. he says in the interview that he doesn't think any single administration can be blamed for the continued existence of al-qaeda.

I read that article too. I agree with some of it- i think, for example, that Saudi Arabia posed a greater threat in the long run than Iraq did...

the thing is; you still have to nail the specific people who are actually doing things wrong. even if you cut the pipe of wahabbiism coing from SA, theres still the poison of the influenced in the water now.

that reminds me of an interesting thing i read in an article about the N, something like the following..

its time we stopped debating whether the cup of the UN is half full or half empty- the content of the water has been poisoned.

I noticed something interesting here in Thailand two days ago.

The security guards at the local hotels, and, at the shopping centers were doing bomb checks on cars.

        That's new, I thought.

My friend told me tonight, that Thai security forces, working with the US CIA, have discovered Al Queda militants coming into Phuket from Indonesia. Something like fifty of them.

        They're expecting trouble here.

I went to Malaysia this week to get my visa extended. (You leave Thailand and come back to get another thirty day visa). The immigration officials in Malaysia, once they saw my blue US passport, became "far from nice". Arrogant. Abrasive. I've traveled a good part of the world; I've never experienced that type of behavior before.

I've noticed from many of my Thai friends, that few people go to Malaysia or Indonesia anymore. The Buddhists have poor feelings for the Muslims, even though they won't directly come out and say it. They have no desire to frequent their business ventures, nor, travel to their countries. With all the trouble that the Muslims in the south are causing, the Thai's have decided to fight back where it "hurts".

        Economically.

These muslim countries are having serious economic problems. Indonesia especially. No one in their right mind goes there anymore. Even Bali, a Hindu area in Muslim controlled Indonesia, is suffering. The terrorists may be killing a few of us, but they are seriously destroying the countries that they are from.

and they are all leaving. If I was cynical I'd guess all the iraqis will leave Iraq and let the terrorists do what they will. That's what I'd do. In the 90's they had something called "eco tourism" till people started getting kidnapped and stuff. Who'd want to go anywhere near militant islamicists. Why were they rude to you?

because malaysia is a muslim country.

its no surprise whats going on in thailand, really. what surprises me is that everyone is so busy accusing the "west", a term i feel is used naiively in this subject, of imerialism that they dont notice the saudi arabian pulling their strings as they talk.

thats really the problem with modern, yet still primitive, muslim countries...especially in the states of the former soviet union and significant parts of the "asian" world. its simply impossible to live next to a muslim country and not eventually become muslim yourself.

i cant help but think back to the wannabe buddhists at shaolinwolf.com rooting for the muslim side of this. really funny...wahabbiism is truely ingenious

Glory and immortality to the martyrs of Iraq and Palestine,
Long live the Arab Ba'ath Socialist Party,
Long live a free and independent Iraq to defeat the occupation and extinguish the traitors and agents,
Long live a free Arab Palestine,
Long live the defiant general secretary comrade Saddam Hussein in his prisoner camp.

In the name of Allah, most compassionate, most merciful.

The Iraqi resistance has offered the proof for its Islamic national character, meaning it is faithful, honest, truthful, and pure. It has proven its credibility by targeting the enemies of Allah and humanity, in the folowing priorities:

              1-American and British ulooj.
2-Foreign Intelligence agencies, under whatever identity they may assume (experts, contractors, merchants, etc.)
3-The ulloj that ally themselves with them from other nationalities.
4-Mercenaries employed by the ulooj from different nationalities including Arab and Islamic ones.
5-Agents of the occupation employed by the American adminstration in government positions (ministers, deputy ministers, advisors, etc.)
6-People working with ulooj as translators and guides.
7-People used by the ulooj against Iraqis as the agent militias of Tarzani's group [Barazani and Talibani], the Hakim of the ulooj [Abdul Aziz Al-Hakim of SCIRI], and the Da'wa.

There truly seems to be a definite aversion to Muslims here. The Thai just don't seem to say many positive things about them.

You can most definitely see a difference in the way that the two groups drive.

The Thai, because of British influence, drive on the left. With courtesy, in accordance not only to local laws, but also in accordance with the concept of common respect to other drivers. They cruise in the left, pass on the right, and get out of the way if you pull up behind them.

The Muslims, typically in much older, much more run down cars, do whatever the hell they want. They go very slow, in the speed lane, without regard to the actions of anyone around them.

I've been watching this for the past six weeks. The difference between the two groups on the road, is just incredible. Listening to Thai drivers complain about the Muslim drivers, just reinforces my observations. The Thai don't speak with hatred; they speak with tolerance and disgust.

I see it largely as a difference in education.
